Dr. Rajith Vidanaarachchi

Dr. Vidanaarachchi received the B.Sc. Engineering degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, and a PhD degree in Engineering from the Australian National University, Australia. For his PhD he focused on computational modelling and data analysis techniques for complex, heterogeneous, time-series data, studying microbial community behaviour. He is currently a Research Fellow at the Transport, Health and Urban Design Research Lab, and the AI, Optimisation and Pattern Recognition Research Lab at the University of Melbourne. He works in modelling complex human societies, with particular attention to spatial, socio-economic, physiological, and cognitive behaviours, with Agent-Based Modelling as the principal research interest. His research interests also include complex ethical issues around the use of AI in various aspects of society. His work has led to him closely working with government and non-government organisations related to health, transport, insurance policy, as well as Australian Indigenous affairs. He is also an educator at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Melbourne.
